In 1901, the Nobel Committee presented its first set of eponymous prizes.  Since then, the committee has not deigned to present the prize to This, Not This!, despite our fantastic musicality and great show. This is a grevious oversight which must be corrected soon, as the committee only awards prizes to living persons, and none of us are getting any younger.  We have been hoping for a "real" prize like Physics or Chemistry, but in a pinch, we'll settle for one of the dumber ones like Economics or Peace.  In any case, while you're taking time off from lobbying the Committee on our behalf and/or holiday shopping, come enjoy the evening with us!  We'll supply the fun and great music which beats a stuffy old Nobel presentation any day.

Tortured Death of Privacy and Freedom 9'th Anniversary Show (Back On!!!)

Mount Tabor Theatre, 4811 Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard, Portland, Oregon

First, it was on, then it was off; first the doors were at 7:30, now they're at 7pm; but the Mt. Tabor Theater show is back on!!!  The Tabe has moved heaven and hell to make this happen, so come out to show them you appreciate it!  We'll have new songs and a great show for you!

On 26 October 2001, President George W. Bush signed into law the USA PATRIOT Act, which the Congress had passed in hasty reaction to the terrorist attacks on 11 September of the same year.  This law, which allowed the Executive Branch to name individuals as "Enemy Combatants" and to hold them indefinitely without recourse to courts, counsel or due process, as well as allowing warrantless surveillance by the agencies of the US Government, systematically gutted the First, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments to the US Constitution in the name of increasing security.  Since then, the sweep of Federal covert activity has increased during administrations controlled by both major political parties, until there are now about 1300 governmental agencies and 2000 private companies engaged in counterterrorism, homeland security, and intelligence gathering and analysis activities in about 10,000 communities around the US; and, of course, the exact number is kept secret.

Benjamin Franklin wrote "The who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."  Lou Reed said "There's a bit of magic in everything and a bit of loss to even things out."  So, although the meager amount of magic we can provide can in no way compensate for the wholesale loss of our liberty, come join us to mourn the anniversary of our loss of liberty nine years ago; for, as Samuel Becket said, "Dance first.  Think later.  It's the natural order."

$5 at the door, doors at 7pm Age limit: 21+

I played keys on Stumptown Shuffle. I was thrilled when Frank asked me if I would like to add keys to one of their songs. I am thrilled and honored to be on one of their songs. I'm an old friend of Frank's when he used to be in a band with my brother. I got to be part of the band for a very short time. So much fun!!

My vote is that you sound like the band Toronto. "Your Daddy Don't Know" would be a great cover tune!

Don't forget their other hit, "Take me to heart". They seemed to have this thing about hearts! Interesting. Anyway, yes they were pretty big here in Portland back in the early 80s. I was a bit too young to see them live at the time, though. ;-)
